Honoring Beltane and The Scorpio Full Moon

April 28, 20262 min read

Happy Beltane and Scorpio Full Moon!

This is one of my favorite pagan holidays, with Samhain being the first. Ironically, they mirror one another, opposite points on the wheel of the year. As we step into Beltane here in the Northern Hemisphere, the Southern Hemisphere welcomes Samhain. One celebrates blooming life, the other honors descent and dark.

Beltane is a fire festival marking the threshold of summer. The word Beltane comes from an old Celtic term often interpreted as “bright fire” and fire is central to its symbolism: purification, protection, passion, and the return of warmth and vitality after winter’s stillness.

This season speaks to me deeply because Beltane is also a celebration of fertility, and not only in the literal sense. How fitting that we honor mothers, the creators of life, during this season. Fertility here is creative force itself, new ideas taking root, intentions planted during Imbolc beginning to come into fruition, and personal healing starting to bloom.

One of the most beautiful Beltane traditions is the Maypole. Often seen as a phallic symbol representing the masculine, intertwined with wreaths and ribbons symbolizing the feminine, it represents union, fertility, and the generative power of nature. The weaving and dancing, moving in opposite directions while creating one intricate pattern, feels like a metaphor in itself. Life often asks us to move through seeming opposites in order to create harmony.

And this year, Beltane arrives alongside the Scorpio Full Moon, also known as the Flower Moon. Ironically, I am a Scoprio moon myself! Scorpio governs emotional truth, the shadow self, sexual and creative power, death and rebirth, and deep soul transformation. As a water sign, Scorpio invites us into emotional depth, while the Flower Moon symbolizes abundance and blossoming. There is something beautiful about those energies meeting.

This full moon also resonates with the sacral chakra, the energetic center of passion, sensuality, creativity, and our love of life itself. Full moons mark completion, culmination, and release. And with Scorpio’s alchemy of death and rebirth, the question becomes: What are we willing to release in order to create?

Just as something must decay in nature to nourish the soil, there are parts of ourselves, patterns, fears, old stories, that may need to be surrendered so something new can grow from stronger roots. The soil, too, becomes a metaphor for our own foundation.

With all of this energy moving, this feels like a powerful time to let go of what no longer serves us, internally and externally, so we can realign and recreate.

Personally, I’ve been letting go of winter routines and welcoming in practices that nourish my mind, body, and soul. Some examples of what I've been doing are: acupuncture, hot sculpt and yoga classes, less phone time, and a deeper focus on soul nourishment. These small rituals feel, in their own way, like honoring Beltane.

So I leave you with this reflection:
What are you releasing to make room for what wants to bloom?
