Imbolc and the Return of Light: Preparing the Soul for New Growth
Happy Imbolc!
On the Wheel of the Year, Imbolc marks the midpoint between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox, a sacred threshold that signals the gradual return of light.
Light symbolizes many things. Awakening. Consciousness. Enlightenment. And quite literally, the slow lengthening of our days. This is the season where we begin to sense new life stirring beneath the surface, the early awakening of Mother Nature after her long winter rest.
The dark, cold months mirror a necessary process of death and rebirth. A time of clearing, releasing, and letting go of what no longer serves us. Just as the earth rests in winter, so do we. We shed old layers, outdated beliefs, and patterns that have reached the end of their cycle.
I love the metaphor of life as a garden. What we tend to is what ultimately grows. Winter is when the garden rests and is cleared. We remove what has decayed, nourish the soil, and allow stillness to do its quiet work.
Imbolc is the moment we begin preparing the soil again. It is not yet the time for full bloom, but it is the time for intention. The seeds we plant now represent our desires, values, and visions for the life we are ready to create. Spring will bring growth, but Imbolc asks us to become conscious gardeners first.
What are you clearing out?
Imbolc Reflection Questions:
What within me feels ready to be cleared so new growth has room to emerge?
What part of my life is beginning to show the first signs of returning light?
What seeds do I want to plant now, knowing they will unfold over the coming months?
